Hotspot Example
Sample Data
People (in North America) with various backgrounds were asked on many social issues
together with personal demographic information, i.e., over 30 different attributes
such as gender, age, education, religious issues, views on politics and abortion,
racial issues, and so on.
Search
The search was to find out profiles
that make people certain about existence of devils. The window image below
shows a result of hotspot search;
- In overall, 43.3% of respondents replied that devils exist definitely.
(Shown at the leftmost node and top-right mini-window.)
In the second level (or second left column), you can see generally perceived profiles.
It is noted that third level is refinement of the second level. Conditions conjoin
with the conditions of the second level parent nodes.
- People who believe in existence of miracles showed strongly about
the existence of devils, i.e., 74.4% shown at the top node of the second level
and in the second mini-window.
- People who reject women becoming President strongly believe in devils,
i.e., 69.6% shown at the second top node of the second level
and in the third mini-window.
- People who are against abortion for rape victims strongly believe in devils.
- People who have 5 to 6 children (quite large number in developed world)
also strongly believe in devils.
- People who watch TV for long hours, i.e., 10 to 11 hours, tend to believe
in devils.
- People who earns $6K (i.e., very low income) also strongly believe in devils.
- People who have spouse with low education level believe in devils.
- People who believe God exist also believe in devils.
- People who object abortion for health reasons tend to believe existence of devils.
Effectiveness
The above result demonstrates the effectiveness of hotspot search.
Who would have thought (with confidence) that female presidency, abortion, TV hours,
etc., are such determining factor! Book publishers can sell more ghost story books
targeting these demographic groups!
